In order to be a successful designer, one has to have good creativity, an artistic sense and extreme self discipline. One should have the ability to work in a group and co-ordinate the skills of each group member to achieve the best output.
In order to achieve client satisfaction, it is extremely essential that Interior Designers should have good communication skills, both linguistic and visual; i.e. the designer should be able to explain his design concept to the client, the projects phases, the costs involved at each stage etc, supported by an identical three dimensional view of what the project is going to look like on completion. This helps the client plan his project and suggest alterations in the proposed output. Good interior consultants should have in-depth understanding of the materials and products used to create and furnish the space. Quick, economical but consistent material and service resourcing should be a handy skill with aspiring designers. One should be a good team leader as well as team player to excel in the field of design services. Last but not the least, it is essential to possess excellent time and project management skills, since there are situations when interior designers need to work on more than one project at a time, under demanding deadlines.
In short, it is extremely essential for interior designers to balance their aesthetical as well as functional sense.
An interior designer must have a clear understanding and a level of expertise to be able to manage a typical project.
